# Migrate existing email to Civema safely

Opening a new package does not migrate old messages automatically. Inventory mailboxes, aliases, sizes and devices, and keep the old service available until validation is complete.

1. Compare each source mailbox with the destination quota. A 7 GB mailbox cannot fit into a 2 GB allowance without archiving or a capacity change.
2. Keep and verify an independent backup, including messages stored only on local POP clients.
3. Create destination accounts and copy mail through an authorized IMAP migration method.
4. Change MX and authentication records during a planned cutover.
5. Copy messages that arrive at the old provider during DNS propagation, then compare folders, attachments and dates.

IMAP does not transfer calendars, contacts, rules and signatures automatically. Reconfigure devices and test delivery before closing the old service. This is a migration plan, not a promise of automatic or free migration.
